26/08/2021: After a pitstop back in Nuuk to recharge batteries, we came back out to the cabin spot and began laying the foundation beams.26/08/2021: We started by laying the 540 cm beams for the front and back edges of the cabin.26/08/2021: At this point, the end for the foundations was in sight!26/08/2021: Cutting notches into the beams – first, Alex used the circular saw to make multiple cuts, and then removed each piece of wood with a chisel.26/08/2021: The surface is sanded after the wood has been removed…27/08/2021:…so that the second notched beam can be set in place with brackets.27/08/2021: Some of the brackets were hard to put in place as the beams had to be positioned correctly in order to secure them.27/08/2021: The highest beam was trickiest to secure as it involved someone lying on top of it to weigh it down and make it touch the post.27/08/2021: The finished beams (plus Alex and dog).27/08/2021: The front posts and beam are tall enough that we can walk under them. It should make for great storage!27/08/2021: Penny, Eva-dog, and the finished (ish) foundations27/08/2021: There are a couple more screws needed to secure the brackets fully, and some bracing needs to be put into the tallest post to ensure that they survive the winter. But other than that, the foundation beams are completed for this year!
